where my cichla are
ok.. yesterday i was gifted with 3 beautiful pike cichlids.. i haven't taken pics of them yet.

i know almost nothing about these fish. is there something special that they need? i mean over and above what i do for my peacock bass? or differently from the peacock bass?

any help or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

Hey morledzep! Nice pick up. They will just need pristine water conditions and space. Are all three Pikes together? And what size are they? And of course you know I am going to ask to see these 3. :D Just to Id them for you.:grinno: J/k I just want to see them, I am not so hot at id'ing but I know someone here will be able to help you out more with id'ing them.

yea, they are all together, i put them in with the orinos. they are all small.. less than 5" one is larger and darker than the other two. Rich guessed that that one might be male?

the bigger one was the one that tried to challenge the biggest orino when i first dropped em in the tank.. we've had no follow up skirmishes since that one. just a little pushing.. no big deal, the orinos have something other than each other to push around now.;)

they didn't have any issues eating small hunks of catfish, hopefully they will take to all the other strange foods just as easily. i put a bunch of log ornaments (the ones i took out of the big fish tank) in so they would have lots of places to hide because every picture i've ever seen of a pike was hiding in or near rocks and logs.

for a multiple pike set up make sure there are alot of visual breaks (good job with the logs) get some dithers in there, couple convicts, dollars, tinfoil barbs or something, as the pikes get a little larger they wont worry about pushin around the orino's they will just go at each other. get a couple decent pics up and will be able to tell you an id and whether or not they should be alright with your orino's

Morledzep I know you will be happy. As far as there size perfect-prefect gave you great advice. I have all my pikes split up and will probally never house any of them together if I can just because of there aggresion towards each other. But that's cool that you have them together and havn't seen any problem's other then the one with the Orino ;) but that was to be expected. My Orino's have taken over as well but the Cobra Pike is eating everything. So I know with three pikes you have your work cut out for you. Mine is 2'' maybe an over estimate and you dealing with 3 5''. :WHOA: I know your loving it. Can't wait to see pics.

P.S. I also use multiple PVC pipes along the bottom and mid level for Pike safe hole's and even from eachother. Sometime's it works other times not so hot.

ok.. a couple not so great pics.. i can't get this camera to take clear pics of the pikes.. the peacock bass are camera hogs and hold still willingly, the pikes don't.. lol. actually it may be the same pic only in two different sizes..
