I took a sponger filter out of one of my established aquariums and put it in a 10 gallon. I was hoping it would be kind of instantly cycled, but I guess that only works if you move over all the gravel/deco as well as filter media. Hopefully it will speed it up. I'm crashing nitrite right now so I'm guess it's not gonna be a long wait.

Tell me this, will adding water from a cycled tank do anything whatsoever in terms of speeding it up? I've always been taught that the water had nothing to do with it, but the loser LFS owner I just had a fight with told me that it would more or less instantly cycle a new tank.

No the water doesnt have bb in it. You'd be better off adding substrate from a cycled tank

Okay thanks that's what I thought.
