So I just picked up 1 2" NTT yesterday afternoon. Was supposed to pick up 2, but one died at the store before I made it there. The one I picked up seemed very healthy, until last night, maybe ten hours after putting in tank.
I noticed his left eye was huge, and getting cloudy. Couldn't find out how the other one died, but I'm a little worried it might be the same. Since its only one eye, maybe he just scraped it on something, but there's not much in the tank. Tested the water, and everything looked perfect. The datnoid always seems to be acting fine.
Any suggestions? Do you think some salt and melefix might do it, or should I take more precautions and further medicate.

It sounds like pop eye, I've seen one eye swell and usually the other eye will eventually swell also. Definitely use melafix sooner than later and quarantine if possible. It usually takes a few days before the swelling reduces so I would keep him in quarantine until it subsides and then a day or two more to be safe.

It was with the other one at the store, but in a tank by itself self now. I know my gar had a similar prob and he actually his eye. I would rather this dat have both eyes lol. Does adding aquarium or epsom salt really help the fluid drain from the eye?

Not to derail, but which store is this and where is it located as I have been searching for Datnoids for years in WI!

Tropic Waters in Eau Claire. They occasionally get them in. Alot of At's, this is the first time ive seen the NTT's there in a year or so. I have had better luck finding them at World of Fish in Minneapolis. Don't know which side of WI your on so might be kinda long drive.

I think I mentioned he developed the cloudy popeye last night around midnight. Today at about 1:00pm, treated the tank with melefix, and added a little salt (Don't ever use salt, so only small amount). I have some coppersafe but think that might be overkill, and too much actually might due damage. Ive treated other wounds and parasites with mlfx, and had pretty fast results. Its 2:00am now, and he looks worse than before, eye is real white and huge.
Do you think I dare add anything else, or just stick to daily melefix?
