Hi all
Im new to dats and just got a couple of 2-3 inch ones about a week ago,
They are eating ok but are still unstable (color is black and splotchy and hides alot) one of them is doing better than the other and is eating and swimming alot more but its bullying the other one and the bullied one just hides behind the power head and doesnt eat as much.
The guy i bought them from kept them both in the same tank together, why are they now fighting? is there any thing i can do to stop them?
any comments and advise is welcome :)

thanks

heres a couple of pics of them in the previous owners tank, theyre not as vibrant in mine so far :(

get more that would break them up a little bit.
just give them time the will start coming out more and eating regularly.
so this is all normal for these nice AT you got.nice pick up
go with 3 just add one more
what size tank?

theyre both in a 2ft growout tank shared with a baby 5" fire eel that gets bullied also by the dominant dat,
So your saying instead of dividing the tank, get more fish?

Another thing id like to ask about is adding salt, ive been told that some dats like brackish water is that correct for all dats or only some types? what about AT's?

ATs can live in brackish water as well but since ou have them in FW, just leave it that way. When ATs become stable they never become unstable, at least that is my experience.

ive gone and added a couple of silver dollars and a couple of dwarf goramis to try to distract the bulling dat, i cant just add more dats as they are hard to come by where i am not to mention very expensive.
Any other ideas?

Giving them more hiding places always help. The addition of schooling fish works well. By adding more dats it splits the aggression and dats usually school and swim next to each other. They are just pushy sometimes for territories

thanks for all replies,
Things are starting to get better, the smaller dat has come right and now pretty much always stable but still gets chased around by the bugger dat who isnt stable yet which is a bit wierd.
Putting schooling fish in did help stop the bulling a little but why is it that the bigger bulling dat isnt stable yet the smaller one which gets pushed around is?
