I finally got some more Dats. I have 5 now, fully stocked.

I had one dat living in my 240gal, and two other smaller ones growing out in my 52gal. I got two new ones today, same size as the one in the 240gal, from the same place I got it actually.
They looked kinda crappy at the store, but so did the other one until I got him home. I put them in the 240gal after acclimating them for awhile. They looked pretty good as soon as I put them in. You can tell in the pictures.
The current resident was NOT happy to see his former tankmates, and chased them all over.
They calmed down after a bit and spread out in the tank. I took a nap.
I woke up and the new guys are huddled behind the filter intake, all dark. The original Dat had chased them until they hid there.
Then he decides to hide WITH them in the same spot, all dark. HUH?

SO now all three Dats are cowered by the intake, all crappy looking. I used to have one that was stable!!

You can see the tank has three distinct landmarks. Everyone usually fights for the middle. Now they are in the back left corner.

The Dats are just big enough (and spikey enough) for the Arowana to leave them alone. They are way too fast as well.

The Arowana is 24" and the Dats are 4.5"

I can't figure out why the one pinned the others behind the filter, then goes and hides next to them!:screwy:

Mine get nippy sometimes, but they work it out. I have never seen any persistent chasing, nor have I ever seen any damage done.

The same thing happens when I add a new Indo to a tank. "The tank contains all 3" to 4" indos". The difference is that when the old one is sitting next to the new one (both all dark) they are head butting and slapping each other with the tail fins. This is just their way of placing the new fish in the pecking order.

Are your guys doing this as well or simply sitting next to each other?

Look at all that space to grow! Those dats are set for life... unless the arowana decides to hide them in his mouth.

the usual problem give tigers hideing places and they will use them
