So I got a new discus today . But one of the other discus wont leave him alone. How long does it take for them to get used to the new guy

most of the time they will get over the new guy but sometimes theres that one fish that hates another i had 16 discus in a 125 everybody got alog but one hated another just that one had to take one out

What are the sizes of the others and the new guy? Also how many do you have? But if you have a least 6 and their sizes are similar, then it should blow over as time passes......

yeah Ive seen discus that just hate each other for some reason. I'd give it up to a week as long as they arent harming each other.

I would also recommend re landscaping the tank.

There is six discus. The new one and four others are 4 to 5 inches and there is a one and a half inch in there. Relandscaping is not gonna work for me right now because there is about 8 new plants growing off the old plants and I want to save them for my other tanks. I'll give it a few days since this morning they seemed better .

wait so the new one is 1 1/2 inches or 4 - 5 inches? If it is the 1 1/2 inches then i would suggest training him until he grows to about the same size as the others but in a different tank. Also keep 2 other discus that doesn't pick on him with him cause they are schooling fish. (also look nicer when there are more discus in 1 tank) . If the newby is 4 to 5 inches then it should blow over after a little bit so no worries.:grinno:

So he's roughly the same size as the biggest. Just give it time man, new discus get picked on all the time. Just remember that they're cichlids..........

I would move the smaller discus to another tank if you can. I know from experience that litle discus will not grow as big as thier adult tank mates. The reasoning behind this is because of a hormone that is excreted by larger adult discus. If the newbie is still getting picked on try uping the WCs and uping the amount of food that you are feeding or the frequence. I had one ******* discus that picked on everyone for a long time, 6+months. I just stuck to a stricked WC schedule and tried to rearrange here and there.

IF this continues, you might want to try taking out all the discus for a couple hours then put them back. For some reason this causes discus to re-evaluate their other tank mates. Not sure why, got that tip from my breeder friend.
