so i just read a post about discus being stunted and i was a little confused. what does a discus being stunted actually mean and can it be fixed. also i just picked up these two discus from my LFS are they stunted. they swim around fine all day and they are eating like champs any info would be great. also if someone could identify them that would be great i was told they were a red turquoise discus and a blue diamond is this true

STunted means that they have missed their growth potential. They are usually smaller and a pointier shape versus a nice round shape. Their noses tend to be beak shaped instead of rounded. Their eyes are very large in proportion to their face size.
Red turq and blue diamond id probably correct. The turq is a little stunted in my opinion but not as bad as the bd. They may still have some growth potential. I would feed them heavily and do frequent water changes for a few weeks and see if you can jump start anything.
Stunted doesn't hurt the fish...so it only matters if it bothers you!! If you think they are pretty and they fit well in your tank,,,who cares? I will suggest getting a couple more. Discus like to be in groups. You will see better eating and behavior if in a group. It also helps to spread aggression around.
Their colors are very nice. I have those same varieties!!

Your top fish (turq) looks "okay" its not badly stunted. and if it is still young, then you still have a decent chance to make it turn out nice.

As for the bottom one, (maybe blue diamond?), it looks stunted. The eye is pretty large compared to the body.

When discus are about 3ish inch, i feed mine 3-4times a day to help them grow. (Beef heart helps).

I'd focus on beefing up the turq. I've done it before, turned my slightly stunted guys to decent size. but i've also failed before too, and the BD you have looks like how mine was that just didn't grow.

There's nothing wrong at all with stunted fish. They are just as healthy. (given proper care of course).
