I have been setting up a 110 for Discus that I was suppose to get the first of the month. They came early. I do not have the 110 ready. I put them in a 30 I had running. The problem is, there are eight of them. The largest is about 3.5-4.00. I just check the Nitrate level and it is going up. I put them in the tank last night. I just added pouch of Nita-Zorb to the HOB filter. I am going to do a 50% change. Any other suggestions? I hope this thing cycles fast.

well i would just do 15-20% water changes daily until the 110 is ready. in the mean time feed them well, but small protions so as to not disturb your 30 too much. provided you keep up with the water changes you should be okay. do you have water in the 110 yet?? if so then throw a piece of cocktail shrimp in there and let it rot away then pull it out after the ammonia spikes. this will start the cycle if you dont have a sturdy fish for it.

Good advice with the daily water changes....I may even go 25% daily....I expect to see pics of these discus, Zig.

You got it, just as soon as I get my camera working. They are nice. If they do half of what their parents are, they will be fantastic. I got them from Windy City Discus. I went to his house and picked them out. Talk about a hard decision.

BTW I did a 50% change added another filter, and things are looking better. I think it will be alright. They started eating already and are coloring up pretty well. I can't wait to have them in the tank they belong in. I am working on the plumbing right now. Should have it running real quick. Will keep you posted.

So far so good. They have great color and they are eating. I had to make a trip to the LFS to buy some frozed blood worms and they went to town. I will do another water change tomorrow. I just got all the plumbing done on the 110 and it is looking good. The water is going in as I type.

and get that camera working lol. im glad all is well. make sure you drip acclimate to the new tank just to make sure. you dont want to do all that hard work for nothing ;)

No kidding, I am runninng the tank right now. It has a 25 gallon sump and a 305 Fluval for filtration. It is a 110 tall designed for salt, but perfect for Discus. I am using ammnia to cycle the tank. I would run the filters on one of the established tanks, but it is all hard plumbed.
