Broke down the wife yesterday and convinced her to let me turn our new tank into a discus tank. We bought a 15g column a few days ago, and I've been letting it cycle for that time. Yesterday we went to look for some fish at a little hole in the wall LFS (always the best ones), and ended up talking to one of the staff who was super knowledgable on pretty much everything they had in stock. I've kept cichlids for years now, but since joining the military and relocating to Texas, I wasn't able to bring my stuff with me comfortably. Anyways, we were circling around the tank room and came across three separate discus tanks. Two were stocked with adult pigeon bloods, which I thought about, but the other had two small discus, one being a blue, and one being a pigeon blood. I picked his brain for a while about them, and he thought that a 15g would be decent enough for them. We ended up purchasing those and 5 Harlequin Rasboras. So far, they seem to be doing well. They're eating both discus pellets and discus flakes, seem to be swimming gracefully and not like they're freaked out, and they're starting to color up more than when they were at the store. Plans are obviously to move them to a much larger tank (120+) down the road, but I believe they'll do well in this for now. pH is sitting at roughly 7.0, and the temp is 83. I haven't put much decor in. Really, the only thing is an artificial root. Debating on what else to put in. Suggestions appreciated.
