I picked up a pair of discus labeled as flachen green at my LFS. After looking at the sticky, I think they may be stunted due to the eye size, although they don't look football shaped to me. They're about 3.5-4" so I hope they continue to grow... if not, I'll still keep them. They're eating well and seem to be adjusting. It was kind of an impulse purchase, my first discus.

This isn't the best pic, he was at the back of my 30" wide tank

The ones I picked up are Stendker discus from my LFS.

Looking at discus hans site, I found this pic of what looks like a flachen. It seems to have the same proportion for the eyes as the ones I got. Is that specific to this type of discus?

They look nice, you should get some stronger lights, alot more plants and like 3 more discus depending on tanksize. It would look awsome

thanks! Here's a FTS from last week before I put in the discus (300 gallon). I'm happy with the lighting and plant situation, it suits me just fine (although more realistic fake plants would be even better) I do agree about more discus - I wanted to see how these go, then add a couple more. If they don't make it I don't want to waste all that money since I have never kept them before.

Yes, they look stunted to me. Their large eyes and showing almost full adult colors at that size is almost a certain giveaway.

If you're looking for a realilistic plant look into silk plants. They're a little more than plastic but worth the money IMO............

I don't think they are stunted and should be showing good color at 4 inches. They look good. I would be careful with the sev with them and I can't tell what type of geos those are. But with only 2 discus and they angels and others they may get spookked and not eat. Good luck

thanks, that's good to hear...

the geos are orange head tapajos and they pretty much stick to themselves.

I was concerned about the eating issue, but these discus are some of the most aggressive eaters of any fish I've had. They're eating pellets out of my hand and hitting the blackworms that I feed my ray as soon as they hit the water. I use my feeding stick to keep the other fish away so the discus can get a head start and fill up before anybody else.

So far, I've been really impressed with how well they fit into the tank.
