One of the first things I thought of when I got my first tank and read that discus need loads of protein was eggwhite. But, since neither the brand fishfood nor frozen discus pasta contain eggwhite, and nobody on any of the fish-websites I've been on ever mentioned eggwhite, I decided that there must be some problem with it. Than I read the eggwhite thread but by that time I was feeding beefheart all the time. Than in beefheart thread people said it isn't good to feed too much of it because of the lipids.

And here is what I did:
After the WC on Friday, I starved all my fish except discus and neons for 4 days, and the arowana for two. Today I baked/fried some eggwhite with Tetra "Floating Food Sticks for all pond fish" in a teflon pan and fed it to my fish. (I used these sticks because I wasn't sure whether or not the fish would eat it and didn't want to waste expensive krill. ) And here are the results:

The aro had a few bites but doesn't seem to love it. But then, she never ate much anyway.
Both Crenichla Semifasciata refuse it categorically but the vittata eats it.
The Oscar refuses.
The Africans eat it but with little enthusiasm.
Synspilum eat it.
Black Shark eats it.
SAL eats it.
The ray cant get to it yet, the eels didn't find it yet and I have to try the frogs yet.
Convicts and JDs eat it.
So do newts and plecos.
Neons eat it.
Most Discus love it!

I conclude that I should probably do that once a week but try other ingredients like krill, shrimp and beefheart.

Any comments, ideas?

We don't know and we don't care?
Go screw yourself?
Any comments at all?

Never done it, don't keep discus, and would not cook the eggs if I did.

I actually followed your advice and poured some liquid eggwhite into the discus tank.

 :WHOA: :jaw: :shakehead

That was soo dumb! The egg just ran down and disappeared in the gravel. :swear: :swear: :swear:

guppy guppy... :swear:

no pattycake for guppy :shakehead

I meant to mix it into the dry food ingredients, not just pour it in the tank, I'm sorry but that made me chuckle. Oooops.

I think there are so many other good things to feed fish, I don't see why one would feed eggs...but anyways if that is what you want to do, I would not mix it with the dry. Unless you mix it right before giving it to the fish, and don't keep any for another meal.

If you do cook them, please boil them. Even without using any greasy-material to fry it, the teflon pan absorbs grease and it's later released when you heat the pan...no good for the water.

My 2 cents.

ground up your beefheart into a hamburger meat type substance. mix in a little whole grain oatmeal some egg whites, some finely chopped spinach and some of your krill. once you have it all well mixed seperate it into feeding sized cubes and freeze it!!!! most fish LOVE IT :headbang2

No wonder Ur fish won't eat ur food taste like Chit!!! Take some beef heart or beef liver grind it up. Add and equal volume of pure oatmeal or other baby cereal (Pablum) which has notting added. A few eggs are added per pound of mixture and enough water is added to make it into a porridge. The whole thing is boiled until most of the water has evaporated or absorbed by the oatmeal. Freeze until needed. To this mixture u can flavour to taste, try adding some paprika or powdered chicken broth mix or spinach. My fish love this stuff.

Thank you for the recipes! I'll cook it for my husband tonight.

I can't fit it in the freezer though. Rogers likes to sleep in it.

Love,

Jessica
