Hello! I will admit first that i am new here and new to all things aquarium, but please before you tell me to hit the search button. Know that i have, many many times, And i believe i do have a basic grasp on what i want/need to do. Just want some help with fine details and be sure i have a realistic grasp on this. that said.
i am currently working on building a 75 gal tank for a turtle, with fish as well (not just feeders) so for the extra bio filtration needs i am seeing a wet dry system is best. I have seen many diy overflows (my tank is not drilled), and I am curious if the style i am seeing online the most is shaped like a spiral with tube height determining the water height. My concern is if i build this for the 2/3 water height would the siphon effect still be efficient enough to flow sufficiently if i used a larger say 1.5 pvc?
Also curious if a 300gph flow at 5ft height would be an appropriate flow rate to keep a good clear water with good filtration? I am diy building a filter out of a 29 gal tank for under the stand.
I am a do it right person first instead of redo after redo, but still love DIY projects which is why i am building rather than buying, so any additional tips or help would be greatly apprecated.
