I picked up three new nicaraguan dovii from Gage over at cichlid connection! great guy, awesome fish! I got 3 with hopes of getting a male. the largest of the 3 already has blue tint to his anal, caudal, and back-half of its dorsal. the others are slightly smaller and I dont see as much spangling. What is the best way to sex young dovii? these 3 are about 2-2.5" at the most. thanks in advance

Looks like 2 males and a female.

Too young to tell 100% yet. Use the search and look at all the other threads people have with ones the same size as yours to get a good idea.

Pics 4,5,and 6 are male. Need better pics:) great pick up.

thank you FWP, I suspect the same as well, there is one that looks slightly different I feel as tho it may be a female, think i have 2 males and 1 female.

@VRWC thank you. I did search and thats how I made my assumption, just wanted you experts opinions!

Im REALLY enjoying them they have so much personality already, they really stick together for the most part and when they cant see me, they explore and "play" almost

I didn't think they looked pure either. Even when there 2" to 3" inches its easy to tell. The males will have lots of little spots all over them and the females won't.

They are supposed to be Nicaraguan dovii, I have had jaguar fry and the look nothing like these at all. They do actually have small spots all over, well the 'male' does anyway. I think I have 2 males and a female, unfortunately the 'female' was killed due to aggression I honestly cannot believe how aggressive they are at such a small size, they are already lip locking, which leads me to believe I have 2 males. They are in a 150g btw so its not like there are no hiding places
