I have had EBJDs for 8 months now, and they had very little coloration as juveniles. I have been feeding them trout worms since they were 3 inches long, I had to cut them up for them with scissors. The mucus in the worms seems to help their slimecoat. I feed them 1 trout worm each, every other day, and veggie flakes as well as color enhancing flakes on the other days. Once a month I give them some bloodworms as well. Now they are 5-6 inches long, and all have brilliant bright blue, green and purplish irridesence to their scales. They still have their juvenile scales, but they seem to be locking lips with each other so I think they are ready to start breeding. Having a nice comfy stress free home is key as well. I have invested about $200 in live plants that promote natural filtration and provide ample hiding places. Keep the water temperature down at around 68 F, and this will keep them from being agressive toward each other. I have finally added regular Jacks as my EBs have aproached breeding age. If you ever do this, make sure that the reg. Jacks are at least 1/3 smaller than your EBs, because they are much more agressive.
