Well I decided to pull the trigger and get this little guy. He is a Macrognathus circumcinctus or as my lfs sold him as a Emerald Green Eel (though he is not green). From what I've found they dont get very big, only like 8" or so and are peaceful. Has anyone ever kept one? Thanks!
Max size: 6"- 8" preferred temp: 24-28 degrees celcius preferred ph: 6- 7.5 min tank size: 24"x12" temperment: peacefull Tankmates: avoid anything small enough to fit in mouth (generaly just other fish fry as is not large enough to swallow adults.) Other notes: costing around twice as much as the peacock eel this fish is still relitivley cheap and is great for those with smaller tanks. lives with other macrognathus.
Had one before. Very nice, i prefer a Fire eel but these are nice for too. I just got what is above from the sticky in the eel section so i didn't have to type it out (laziness).
I guess another name for it is zig zag eel, but that is why I always try to get the scientific name cuz there is only one so no confusion! I doubt 38" but he will be going in a 180 in a couple of months so if he does get bigger than 8" i'll be prepared!
He is in a 55g for now with my SA Lungfish and other peaceful companions. Probably in November or December I'm upgrading to a 180g so he'll be going in there. BTW SALs are very peaceful unlike African species.
