Greetings all!
This is officially my first post on this forum. Been a long time observer, wonderful site!
Anyway, on to business...
My wife and I picked up a 90 gallon (long) tank last fall, it's going to be our larger, expanded Peacock/Hap tank. Currently we have several peacocks and haps that are a year or two old in a 60 gallon, which is running out of space quickly!
Anyway, this tank was made by All-Glass, so it's got a tempered bottom, which means I wasn't able to tap a hole and add a sump to this setup. Canister filters are pretty well the only option for this display tank.
By that as it may, we managed to score a sweet deal on a Eheim 2078e and have been culturing the new filter on the 60 for over a month now. (never has the 60 had THAT much filtration...looks good actually!!) I opted to fill the canister with Seachem Matrix, using Fluval pre-filter media as well as the supplied Eheim filter pads. I've also got a Fluval 405 kicking around that I was going to use only as mechanical filtration (stuff with filter foam and floss). My wife was very specific that this tank not have any HOB's or other life support equipment on top (other than lights) as this is our main display tank.
The issue we're having at the moment is the output from the Eheim.....it's just a spray bar, whcih is actaully reducing the flow somewhat. And that's not really too great for Peacocks/Haps who are very messy and need lots of flow/filtration.
I like the looks of the Fluval FX5's output nozels...dual swivel nozels...I'm thinking of ordering just the output nozel and attaching that to the end of the Eheim return pipe.
I'm also toying with the idea of connecting both the Eheim and Fluval 405 to the same return nozel (from the FX5 in this case) but without having the parts infront of me...it's kinda hard to mentally picture how to do it.
So, I'm wondering what other fish keepers who've been here before me could recomend, or what you've done.....and you know, some comments on the setup if you like.
Eventually I'll have picures to post....for now we're taking the time to paint the walls and change the plugs (to GFI) before moving the tank to it's spot and filling it.
Thanks for looking!
J
