Just received a new Emperor 280 today and it comes with carbon filter to start then an empty clam shell for extra media.

What do i put in the empty clam shell? Should i buy more filter (carbon) and have 2 inside? Do i need anything in there at all?

Thx

This is what I did. I filled the clamshell with a type of biocube thing, like a small pelleted porus white rock, cant remember the brand. I filled either side, wet the rock, put it in the freezer, let it set, then put the two halves together (otherwise without the freezing, i wasn't going to be able to close the clamshell without the rock going every where. After inserting the clamshell, i filled the 280 with bio balls - behind the clamshell.

I also drilled a small hole in the cover so I could ensure the bio-wheel was spinning. yup, that's about it! Great filter, I love it.

Thx, so I can put pretty much anything in there. I thought it would have to be some kind of Emperor cartridge.
