I am supposed to be picking up my first ever poly today an Endli about 3.5".:headbang2 Ive been looking for one in my area for a while and my lfs finally got one in. Ive read the stickys on the care of polys and im confident i can handle them. But my question is i was goint to put him in one of my 10gal tanks for qt and it has gravel substrate. Ive read many post on here about peoples polys injesting rocks and dieing. I was wondering if it would be ok for a while until i move him up to a bigger tank. Thanks.

Should be alright if you're only quarantining him in there. How long will he be qt'd and what size tank are you moving him up to?

Probably a month to make sure he doesnt have any parasites, then i have a 55gal grow out for him to go into. Once hes big enought i will be putting him in with my pbass in my 180gal. I will be eventually moving up to 500+gal so there wont be a problem with space. Thats why i chose this species of poly beceause they get big.:grinno:

F'sho! just keep an eye on him while in the ten gallon. If he starts looking like he's gonna munch on the gravel then move him out right quick.

I know im new to polys but what do they look like when there about to eat gravel?:D I went to look at him at my lfs and hes alittle beat up. He seems to be swimming around ok but he wouldnt eat. So the guy said i could give it a couple days to see if he eats, they have a no return policy. I dont want to buy him and have him die right away. Is there anything specific i should look for when i go back. He has both of his barbells, but looks alittle skinny.
