I was looking to see if anyone from the northeast US region was into catching tropicals that make their way up north late summer. Had any info on locations etc.
After speaking with a few who do so in CT...you can find everything you would see in the caribean up here. The specimens just tend to be very small.

I can't find much info online about it...except this page from a dive club. Seems as though its a good chance to go collecting for animals that will be killed off in the fall anyways.

Thanks

I caught a spotfin butterfly up here in Maine several years ago. Still have it today. There are lots of folks that collect tropicals in New England, especially in New York. There is a long thread somewhere on Reef Central about it. Should be some folks on here too.

Hey Spotfin long time no chat. Glad to hear you still have the butt's. I remmy when i started that thread on RC and ppl went nut's about it. Now it's a more common thing to do. I still envy u for keeping them alive for so long when all i can do is a few week for spots and four eyes.

krzr3000 Since you are near you should check out Boston Reefer Association. There will be a few ppl collecting in RI i be leave this summer as well as my yearly collecting trip i host during the summer.

Definitely, thanks for the input.

Do you guys have links to threads and such on this topic? I tried searching at RC but no luck...

Hi Fishfinder,
You catch some cool fish!

Very impressive, just read the entire thread. Thanks! I plan on getting out this summer...not taking anything but just to net and get some photos. Probably in RI.

Bump...

Its almost time for the "season" ...has anyone gotten out yet? or planning to?

Does anyone hit Jamestown, RI (fort wetherill)? Based on what i've found online thats a hot spot for butterflies, filefish, lionfish, groupers, etc.
