So, I got my new fahaka in on Wednesday, little bit bigger than my other one, however he looks like a baby this time around. More mottled in color, but still has stripes underlying it all. After acclimating him for an hour I released him into my tank, he went straight down and buried. However on the way down I noticed he was pretty skinny. Nothing a good diet cant fix. Dropped a clam in that night and after a minute of hesitation he unburied and went for it. Easiest fish I have ever gotten to eat. Since Wednesday he has had 2-3 meals a day, consisting of worms and clam so far. Once he gets more brazen and swimming around the tank less skitishly Ill switch to all the other types of food I have.

I noticed his belly has two or three small lumps in it after being fed, where as my last puffer just put on a big round pouch. I also noticed on the second day a mucus holding a couple of his poops together. Was about 3 inches long by the time in was all passed. Worried he may have some IPs. Went and grabbed APIs version or prazi and metro, which is a powder, and Tetras version which has those two ingrediants plus two others which Im pretty sure are for ick. I soaked his two breakfast clams overnight in a half cup and half tab of the tetra variant, and he ate half of each this morning no problem. Going to continue that twice a day for five days then take time off to see how he is. Does that all sound right? Thanks all.

Don't over medicate. Just use either the metro or prazi. No ich meds.

Well, the API brand has prazi and metro in it. 250mg of one and 75mg of the other per tablet if I'm remembering correctly.

Sorry replying via phone. Meant to also say...

The tetra also has both those ingrediants, however also has two more in it. Can't remember the names off the top of my head.

Checked the box, its tetra parasite guard. Has metro, prazi, dflubenzuron, and acriflavin. Doesn't give specific amounts though. I use 1/2 tablet In about a cup of water. Soak two clams in it overnight and throughout the day. He's pretty quick to eat the first clam, then takes a few bites of the second and goes to rest. I clean up after him. Tank will getting a second 50% water change today, last one was on Tuesday and the one after this will be this Tuesday coming, so two a week. He's plumped up, but I attribute that to the 3-4 little clams a day. At the end of a five day treatment should I skip a day of feeding to see if he gets skinny again quickly? Haven't seen.any actual worm, string of Pearl type, worms hanging out. Just a long mucusy poop once. Been working so have had time to really watch him.

If he dislikes the taste of the meds, add a crushed garlic clove to the soaking mix. He'll gobble them up!

No issues there thus far. Always takes quite a few bites. I know about the garlic trick and have that one up my sleave in case he decides to go on strike. Thanks though.

Garlic also repels parasites so killing 2 birds with one stone

He's been off his medication since Wednesday. Didn't feed Thursday to are if his stomach would shrink. No issues there. Eating readily Now. 2 clams a day. Not taking to the bloodworm cubes I defrost but loves live worms. Nice and chunky now. Not skinny at all. He's right around 3-4 inches and round so I'm.hoping.now ill start to see actual growth. Oh, also didn't see any signs of hanging worms or worms In his poop. No strings of pearls and no mucus or anything. I think he's healthy so I have my fingers crossed on a happy growing fish.
