I recently got three 3" female festae from Dan at Cichlids of the Americas, to grow out for my 9" male I got from Rapps a while back. Dan was sure he could sex at that size. Well, I thought for sure I was screwed. I didn't see an black dorsal. They had blue dots all over them. They had a green sheen, like you see in the males. Well, all three are now in the 4" to 5" range and are clearly female - I'd like to know his sexing secret. Two are in a 300 now and one is recovering from minor fin damage in a quarantine tank. The other two decided two were enough. Soon one of the two will decide one is enough. Unfortunately, I lost the 9" male in a basement remodel - so very sad, especially since they take forever to grow. If anyone is in the Atlanta area and want's to exchange a male for a nice female, let me know.
