I had a guy that replied to one of my for sale threads on craigslist coming over to buy some fish from me and he mentioned he had a female flowerhorn that was laying eggs that he might be looking to get rid of. I've only got 1 female right now thats never layed eggs for me and I had the space so I told him to bring it over. I ended up trading him 3x 1" frontosas, 6x 1" pink convicts, and a 2" marble crayfish for this 3-3.5" female. Not a fish I'd pay a lot for but she's proven and I got her delivered to my house in trade for fish I payed $5 for. Let me know what you think.

I will get some shots later when I get home from work. The shots above are within 2 minutes of her being put in the tank.

If that pair were to pair up they would make decent fry i think, i like her!

I like all of the FH's you have here! Looks like potential there for sure! You female on the bottom has wicked reds going on! Even looks like a touch of KOK?? :headbang2

But I gotta ask, you traded 3 Frontosas for just the 1 FH? Did I read that right?

1" fronts. I paid $1 a piece for them 6-8 weeks ago. I hate africans.

thanks guys, I'll have to get pictures of them when the males fins grow back. I decided I'd move the male over to the females side and see what happens. They were both showing off for each other for a minute or two. Then they went lip to lip for another 5. Now they're separated. I will try again in a week or so. When do you guys decide enough is enough when it comes to fish fighting? I don't mind the lip to lip it's the fin nipping and scale picking that takes it too far for me. Lip to lip just seems like a dominance thing to me.

Exactly when! If its a bit of mild lip on lip lock not a biggy but when thrashing and scales are involved thats when I seperate too!

For the Frontosas, Pruess likes them and they sell for alot! Next time you have some PM me and Ill call them and see what they're worth.

All in all I would say great deal! The new female is spunky looking!

keep them separated until they are alot more mature... i just don't understand the reasoning behind ppl wanting to breed flowerhorns so small and young.

first thing usually especially since they are very close to same size. the female is more then likely gonna be the aggressor. what she wants to see out of a male that might be a potential mate is strength. this is why breeders like to have the male about 2times the size of the female when pairing and breeding. while flowerhorns are young like these 2 pictured above. inexperience can kill the best of them.

flowerhorns will fight until that connection or power struggle is worked out and the male HAS to be on top.

gl with the pair and i hope you get many eggs someday out of them. :D
