I ordered 12 of these guys from Jeff Rapps the other day and just received them this morning! They're about 1.5" +/-. I plan on breeding them eventually and since I have 12 I am hoping I will get at least a couple pairs.

Good looking festae. You should get at least a few pairs from that many. Just be ready to move them around once they start to pair up.

They look great!

Thanks! They settled in great.

Oh, I'm prepared. I bred Texas Cichlids for a while and with them not being as aggressive as the Festae, even they started to turn on each other as they grew and paired up. I have a spare 29g and I'm also picking up a couple 40g Breeders for any other pairs that might develop. I am setup for one breeding pair as we speak and since these youngsters are only about 1.5" I still have a little time before I start to see pairing. That way I can get some more tanks setup for the different pairs. I am even debating on maybe getting a bigger tank like a 125g and splitting it in half with a glass or acrylic sheet then putting egg crate in the middle of each half that way I can have two pairs in the same tank. Either way I am looking forward to seeing how they turn out! I would be content with just one good pair, but I bought the 12 hoping to get multiple pairs. Also wanted to make sure I had a bunch on hand so I could try and pick out the best looking pairs with best colors and markings.

I did a similar thing with mine. I bought five and got lucky, I ended up with 3 female and 2 males. The largest male was from a different stock than the females, so that helped to eliminate inbreeding.
With mine, once they had paired and I moved them to their appropriate tanks everything was progressing. I had two pairs with a single female left as the odd one out. I moved her to a tank to herself. The largest male and his chosen mate went into a 220 and they have gotten along since day one. They have spawned probably 6 times.

The other pair not so much, They had spawned maybe 3 times and then the male got very rough on his mate. I had to install a divider to keep him from beating on her constantly. Then one day I came home and he had managed to push the divider over enough to get past it. I was to late he had already killed her.

Each fish will be different and its hard to say why this male is so much more aggressive. They were in a smaller tank, a 75, but they were quite a bit smaller than the other pair.

True. I'm going to keep the males from the females as much as possible except when trying to spawn. The tank they're in now is real empty, just sand and pots. It's divided in half already with egg crate, but they're still small enough where they can go through the holes so it will be a few weeks before I can start to separate fish.
