Hello all, new to FH....in the hobby for years..recently divorced so building me a new fish room..

One of my 55 gal display tanks I decided to grow out some red dragons...this was an established goldfish tank that was up and running with a relative for about 4 years...kept half the cycled water, the filter media, and two plecos...traded the goldfish to an LFS for supplies.

Tank has been up and running for two weeks now. Added the 4 1.5 - 2 inch red's on Wed this week. Purchased from Tampa Bay Cichlids. Fish arrived very well packed and after about 2 hours were swimming around and adjusting well. Added 4 live plants on friday.

I started them on bloodworms, also intro pellets, tubiflex and today introduced meal worms.

This is my area of concern...they are eating...just not as well as I would like and they seem stressed and very..very skiddish

Water temp is 73
I have detected small traces of ammonia at times but have continued to do waterchanges.

All other water parameters normal.
Ph 7.9 to 8.2

The two plecos are about 7" inches long...my theory is the p lecos are keeping them stressed at night as they bang around the tank in the dark like p lecos do...

Any thoughts suggestions welcome...im leaning toward moving the plecos.

Remember high heat can cause bad water conditions fast. Things like algae bloom, bacteria blooms, ammonia, nitrites spikes and more waste population. The fish will also eat more and grow faster, I would start at 78 and work up to 82 or higher gradually over a week or so.

I set the heater to 80 this am....water is reading at 78 right now and it has made a significant difference in the behavior....i don't know what I was thinking having it that low...i guess I wasnt....

Haha they love the warm water. My tank right now is set to 83 i believe. I would have higher but the loaches probably wouldn't like it
