I just aquired a juvinile FH at my LFS and have NO idea what kind it may be.It looks like these two pictures but it's still a juvinile so no Nuchal Hump,it just shares the same colors/spots.Any help will be so very appreciated,as i like to correctly identify my species.I picked him up becacuse iv'e been dying to get one,but i don't wanna order online for my first one. He's obviously low grade seeing as i paid 7.99 for him, this was antoher reason i scooped him up.One of my questions is,even if it's lowest grade, will it still get it's hump,at least a little bit? Oh,and hes has Reverse-degrading stripes, like a Red Terror.
Thanks

ZZ type.

But try to post picture of your fish. Not all FHs get a hump head.

i have one just like it i got like a month ago, mine ive been told was "low grade "but we'll jst have to see as it grows. i got a feelin it'll be an awesome lookin fish. ive heard that there is specific FH pellets but i havent seen it in my area, ive also been told to put a mirror in front of the tank but i think thts work better when the fish get a little bigger and start caring about territory and another male being in its presents.keep us posted id like to see the progression.

He looks pretty good. He is very dark because of the black gravel so its hard to identify what strain it is. There are no flowerhorn "species" only strains. If I had to venture a guess I would say Zhen Zhou, he has a very nice fan tail and the structure and shape to potentially grow a hump. I would definitely grow this guy out but would recommend changing the gravel. What store did you pick him up from? I'm pretty close by in NH...

Pets First in Swansea Mass........There are 2 more, mine was the one with the best color(obviously) and he was chasing the other two so i figured male.....when i put my arm in the tank to do stuff he bites me,it feels like i'm getting a tattoo on my forearem!!!!And about his color against the black sand,it was the phone-cam that screwed the pic up 'cause this gut at 3" has some serious pearling and a couple "Flowers",and about his hump potential,he already has a little rounding starting out, this also leads me to beleive it might be a male, i want a male as i've never owned a fish thats gets a Nuchal Hump, so i hope he develops KOK well.

Itz still difficult to judge due to stress marks and the fish isn't really himself...try to post pix of him when no stress bars present
