So while home for easter I went to the LFS just to go see what they had, not planning to buy anything. and then i see this FH and knew right away that my girlfriend would love it. that being said I got a couple questions if y'all FH experts don't mind :)

1. Is there a way to tell from the picture if it is male or female 100% without venting? I believe it's a female but you all would know better than me, it's currently about 7"

2. If it is a male is there a way to keep them healthy without having the nuchal hump get large?

3. Any idea on what kind of hybrid this is?

Thanks in advance, here's the picture:

It looks male to me. Body shape is usually a big indicator.

I honestly don't know why you asked this question. Its like saying, "I want to keep my dog happy, but I don't want it to run around and play". Anyway, your fh won't get a large hump.

A flowerhorn.. as for the type.. Pearly ZZ.

OMG that is a nice FH
as for sex i think it can go ether way. as for its head i dont see it being massive if it
is a male i would not expect anything bigger than an average midas/devil.
very nice fish btw nice find.

Awesome, thanks. I guess I worded the 2nd question wrong, what I guess I was trying to ask is if there is anything extra you have to do to make the hump grow or if basic nutritional needs and good water have it grow naturally.

i think that it is a kamfa or has some kamfa in it.

Major factor will be genetics, then water quality, then food. A high quality pellet and clean water will allow your fish to bloom into whatever it can become. It most likely won't get a hump since its already 7".

Possibly. Its eyes throw me off but it could be stressed so its eyes aren't red.

Most likely a ZZ X BP or KML but I'm going to stick with Pearly ZZ.

im stoked. just went and picked HIM up they verified what you thought was correct but i forgot to ask what specific breed. regardless awesome looking fish in my opinion

Actually I see a little bit of Kamfa in that fish. And if it is "ZZ x BP" it would still be classified as Kamfa. It won't grow large kok but its body color and pearling will make up for that. This flowerhorn is really nice and definitely a keeper.

Post a better side shot of it please.
