So I finally got my first puffer. It's a little figure 8. I've currently got him in a 10g established tank with some guppies and a rapidly decreasing population of snails:D

I plan on moving him to a 20H or 30g tank with a dusky panther goby in the next few weeks. I've read that these guys do better in slightly brackish water over plain freshwater. Is this true? If so, how much marine salt per gallon should I use? Any tankmates to specifically avoid or are known to be good with them?

Also, what is the best substrate for them? What kind of decorations or plants are good for a puffer tank? Also, can these guys be kept only singly, or can I keep a pair or more together? If I can keep more than one, how many and how many gallons per added puffer?

This such puffer fish MAY NOT mix with any other fish. Coz they will bites their tankmates till die. Becareful of its teeth... too sharp.

Check the site Pufferpunk posted the link for. They do like low end brackish and can fin nip - not as bad as some puffer species. All fish are individuals and wil vary in temperment. Be prepared to move tankmates if he starts attacking them. Puffer looks goood though- nice round belly.

Yah, his only tankmates are some feeder guppies (that didn't get eaten before I got him), some snails (food) and some ghost shrimp (food). This little guy has a voracious appetite. He always has a fat little belly.

He hasn't gone after any of the guppies that I've seen yet, but i could really care less if he does, cuz they're just gonna reproduce like crazy anyways. I'll probably end up just getting rid of them.

I like how he is very aware of his surroundings outside the tank. He always notices whenever I'm in the kitchen. Its neat watching his eyes, because they can move around so much in their sockets, as compared to other species of fish.
