I really wanted a eheim, but after finding this deal i think i made out the best:

Just ordered Fluval FX5 for 262.80 with 2 day shipping in that price:drool:... will be here saturday!! It comes with three year warrenty from fluval which i hopefully won't have to use.... honestly there are some good reviews on this filter(some bad like any brand) so for the money and warrenty i'll give this sucker a go... in the past i have seen and delt with some horrible fluvals, also don't know about now days, but their customer service was horrible!!I will run this side by side with my xp3....

so anyways this will be on a 140 gallon.. i'm thinking about using the fx5 for mechanical only and my rena for bio..... what do you guys think about this, good idea? any suggestions for setup appreciated... i have a good amount of experience but would like to get the full potential out of that fx5...

Thanks!:headbang2

Just my opinion....But I'd want the most BIO filtration possible. Use the FX5 filled with plastic scrubbies and the XP with sponge and filter floss.

plastic scrubbies are very controversial... i know a handfull of people who have been doing this since before i was born(24 yrs old) and advise against it saying you will get more out of the biomax or the eheim stuff... and that scrubbies would be all right in a dry/wet but when constantly submerged will be horrible.... but i understand you suggestion in general...

You have to make sure they are chemical free... they are the best in terms of surface area, hands down. As for a handful, I know about 20-30 breeders/experienced keepers that use them. By far the best bang for your buck...

I'll try to find you a link that compares surface area. It's all about surface area.

i realize surface area but when submerged constantly in a canister filter, they say they don't hold good at all compared to biomax or the all mighty eheim.... well i'm heading to the gym i'll check up on this later on tonight.. thanks for your thoughts,
