I just bought a new sponge filter to add to my 55g that has been cycle for a while now. Will the new filter cause a partial cycle or any spikes? Or will it be fine and eventually be mature as well? OR should I just set it up in another tank or q tank and let it become cycle in that then change it over??

Thanks

As long as you don't take the original filter out of the tank, adding more filters will do nothing but good.

It will be fine, but remember that if you are not increasing the bio-load the new filter will take some nutrients away from the old filter and decrease it BB. This would only cause a problem if you were to remove the sponge filter and increase the bio-load of the tank at the same time, posibly causing a mini cycle.

If you are considering the sponge for a Qtank, remember it should never go back to the original tank without cleaning and treating it for pests.
