I have my (almost16") silver arowana (yes, still in the 55 gal), his angelifishthatthinksandactslikeanarowanacausehewasraisedbyone, and supposedly a pleco., after 2 mos I think I saw a pleco go by....., a 2 month feeder guppy that no one will eat cause it's too ugly, they have 1/4" gravel and I just installed an exterior canister filter Odyssea 4, (still 33 left on ebay at 48 a pop, killer deal) in 2 days my tank was so clear, 2 more days I've never seen nicer water in my life. My aro is starting to thrive. This canister could easily handle a tank 4x the size of mine. How often should I do what % water changes (very hard water, high natural ph, have option of well or city water), salt only with h2O changes? (what about evaporation), how often do I clean the canister and replace the peat, ceramic, etc.) and he like's 2 bubble wands, loves the air (Can the air hurt him? His swim bladder seems ok,he doesn't go sideways (
except after yesterdays double lap 4 headbangers in a row!)
The filter removes tanin from almond tree leaves (which is a bad thing)
I turn the air off at night for a few hours and tell him to swim like a real fish with no bubble machines, and he gets pouty or pings his floats off the top. So, I know you are all dying to give me advice, good and bad, let it rip.......goal=healthy happy aro and proper tank conditions Thanks! One more, do I need to keep the biowheel on there?
