I have my (almost16") silver arowana (yes, still in the 55 gal), his angelifishthatthinksandactslikeanarowanacausehewasraisedbyone, and supposedly a pleco., after 2 mos I think I saw a pleco go by....., a 2 month feeder guppy that no one will eat cause it's too ugly, they have 1/4" gravel and I just installed an exterior canister filter Odyssea 4, (still 33 left on ebay at 48 a pop, killer deal) in 2 days my tank was so clear, 2 more days I've never seen nicer water in my life. My aro is starting to thrive. This canister could easily handle a tank 4x the size of mine. How often should I do what % water changes (very hard water, high natural ph, have option of well or city water), salt only with h2O changes? (what about evaporation), how often do I clean the canister and replace the peat, ceramic, etc.) and he like's 2 bubble wands, loves the air (Can the air hurt him? His swim bladder seems ok,he doesn't go sideways (
except after yesterdays double lap 4 headbangers in a row!)
The filter removes tanin from almond tree leaves (which is a bad thing)
I turn the air off at night for a few hours and tell him to swim like a real fish with no bubble machines, and he gets pouty or pings his floats off the top. So, I know you are all dying to give me advice, good and bad, let it rip.......goal=healthy happy aro and proper tank conditions Thanks! One more, do I need to keep the biowheel on there?

get the poor fish a bigger home:(

as far as water changes I Would say 30 % every other day. sounds like the tank has a heavy load. filtration sounds good, clean the canister every month or so. dont worry about the bubble wands....they're ok.

:screwy: :grinno:

hey no need to be rude if you had read meilings previous posts you would not sya these things plans are to get a bigger tank dumba$$ this forum isnt here for people to talk down to other people but to help out with questions concerning their fish but i will talk down to people like you who choose to be rude about their responses..... so like my parents said if you aint got nothing nice to say shut your f@#$ing lip

I am very new at having an aquarium. A few months ago this precious animal was doomed and I was his chance to make it. I greatly appreciate everything you have all taught me, and most certainly has saved my aro. I am high in the mountains in the pacific northwest, I still have snow outside, very remote and 4x4 access. I know I desparately need a bigger tank and have one waiting as soon as I can get it here without freezing or breaking. The power may be out and it may be 3 degrees F outside, but my fish his the goosedown wraps. We've been through heck and by golly, I am going to give this guy everychance in the world to be the greatest, most beautiful and happiest domesticed fish he can be. I know things aren't ideal, so in the meantime, a good friend got me into this forum and I faithfilly read it everyday. I also appreciate humor, and I offended anyone, I apologize. The goal is for me to get this guy in a 150 in 2-4 weeks. Thank You all again, I do need the advice.
