just bought the newest filter from fluval at a promo price of $350. it's the FX5 and it is suited for up to 400 gal. it's on my 125 and it's the balls. anyways, I have 3 trays that I can fill with anything. I chose to use biomax spheres from my ac110s for 2 of the layers and this cotton stuff for the first layer. anybody have any suggestions on what they would use?

i got a little 204. prefilter rings, poly, bio....i might eventually pull the prefilter and just add more bio.

downset21,

You've been around long enough - this is a question for set-up and filtration, not general aquaria ;) ...

I have great success with Eheim Substrat Pro, I even heard about it here at MFK!

I would fill one basket with Chemi-pure (4 bags), and the other two baskets with Aquaclear ceramic rings or biomax equvilent....

You can try the polishing filters on top of the Chemi-pure if you wanted.....
The filters that are surrounding each basket work excellent...

I use the Fx5 on a 220 gallon - I have yet to see a clearer tank
