IN YOUR HEAD
i just got a new filter to replace my emperor 280 (that replaced my 8 yr old ac30 that welded its impellor to itself on my 20gal)...i got a Biosystem 75...anyone ever used it before? is it good? it has a skimmer built in and 350gph...i got it for $40 thats why i ask, alittle cheap...it is on my 55gal with an ac70, so i wont get a true test of its ability, but was it a good buy?

yea actually i do. The water on the top of my tank was gross looking so i got it because it had the surface skimmer. This thing is awsome!. It kept my SW system clean by itself. 60 gallon moray eel tank , tessalata , spotted , and a grouper. I couldnt understand how it kept the tank soooo clean. But it did get loud once i put it on my fw system. I think it sucked up to much sand , so i had to move it out of my room. Its now on my 210 with other stuff , and is putting out massive water . Its very loud though .... but it wasnt always that way.

cool...it may have gotten loud for you cause the sw corodes the impellor...at least the sales guy said that it would do that if i put it on sw...i have it on fw tank as i haven't done salt yet...that is one of my next ventures after i finish my big cat/ arowana project that i am in the middle of...glad to hear the i made a good choice and saved $60 in the process...my next choice was an ac100 or an emperor 400...i had also kicked around getting another fx5 to replace my emperor 400 on the 180gal...

You should do some ebay shopping man , they have crazy , i mean crazy deals on filters etc... another really good idea i did that i have the most over filter tank is my 100 gallon with a 10 gallon diy sump with nothing inside but sponge filters , it keeps it crazy clean , i have 700 gallons of filtration on that hoe!

ebay is where i got my fx5 it was $240, came with carbon, polishing pads and something else and free shipping....i had a mess of bio-balls around so i through some in aswell...now the 180gal has about 1000gph, my 55gal has about 650gph and my 20gal has 280gph + 2 home made airstone powered tube filters i made from a under gravel system parts, sponges and carbon packs...

why wouldn't they work? i have them in the middle section i have carbon in the top section and polishing pad in the bottom and it works awsome...hell i even throw them in my hob's in the extra space...i have 3 15" tsns, 22" silver aro, 14" gar, 12" pacu, 10" jd, 7" yellow bullhead and i never have had any problems with the filtration...unless i forget to open the lines on the fx5 after a water change as the emperor 400 can't handel the load alone...

I have the same filter, no problems so far

bio balls work best with air flowing through them and water , best for wetdrys. This is what ive heard and gone by and ive seen better performance out of the bio max and ceramics. Somone correct me if i am wrong but yup. bio balls and scrubbies work best in wet drys not fully submerged in canisters. If its working then awsome but the ceramics would work about 10x better.

alright...i didn't know they needed air flow...since ceramics work 10x better, then the next filter "clean" i will swap them out...
