Well I've tried a couple fire eels in the past but none would eat for me.
Last one was at a guys house and he said I don't see it eating if you want it just come and get it and see if it will eat. I tried all the normal stuff and a few dayd later it didn't eat and passed. I still wanted to give it a good shot as they are so cool and something I have wanted for a long time and have not felt that I have had a good opportunity to really keep one.

I looked at all the normal stores and found one 8 inches for 70.00, that place is always expensive and I never buy there.
Next I went to a little store that had some listed a couple months ago and decided to see if they had any. Sure enough in a pleco breeding cave they had a little guy. I asked if he would get him out of the cave so I could see him and after he got him out I could tell he was a bit skinny. The guy said it's been here for a month or more. I asked what it was eating and he said he has never seen it eat but they throw flake and black worms every now and again in the tank to feed the fish. It quickly dug deep into the gravel out of sight.
20.00 was the price and they are not seen around here so I decided to take another chance before I order or ask someone to get me a few to find a good one.
Brought him home and I could tell he had allot more energy than the others I had gotten. I also had the same pleco cave at home so knew he would be able to feel better at home with it.
I don't have a tank for one but I figured one of my pup tubs that I throw in my tank would be perfect and a good place for him to grow up in. Empty with him only and a couple gold fish to clean up. He went in checked out all the drilled holes and found them to small to fit through which is good as I guessed they were and he swam around a little saw the pleco cave and went straight in.
I tried dropping blood worms in after a day figuring he was settled in and he wanted nothing to do with them. Next day I tried again nothing so I switched to a fine diced worm. Had it in my hand and reached down and he came right out and after biting my fingers a little I directed him to the worm and he took a couple huge mouth fulls.
Next day he didn't eat and the next he did eat again. Then he started eating daily and I tried tilapia which he loved as well. Same thing in my Palm by my fingers he comes out eats and seems happy. He is getting more excited when I approach the tank and stick my hand in. I even tried pellets one day and he seemed to just spit them out but it was hard to see but I think he might go for them after so time and practice.
So sorry for the long story and I hope I continue to have good luck with him. He is a small little guy but eats well and is very friendly.

Growing fast. Really amazed at how big he is getting after so short of time, guess eating like a pig every day helps a lot

Very nice man can't wait to see him grow up into a big puppy.

I recently last week picked up a 20 inch tire track eel and he hasn't been eating anything although I gave him some slivers of tilapia and he just takes them in and spits them out now he's stopped even doing that. Heard they can starve themselves for awhile...

Anyways u should get him some other eel friends! Maybe a couple more fires and a tire track. Tire tracks look like snakes when bigger like a python or something
