The other day I went to petsmart to buy a firemouth. They only had 1 in the tank so I trusted that the girl knew what it was- anyway I was driving home and I peeked at him and found a tiny flowerhorn in the bag! I guess the firemouths are with the so called red texas. I thought he looked pretty good although I noticed some white feces. Anyway I'm trying to decide if I should keep him or return. What do you think- is he a keeper?

I personally would take it back because I wanted a Firemouth. If you like the fish then keep it, and treat for parasites if you continue to see white feces.

Do want a flowerhorn? I'm figuring you got a great deal on it if you paid firemouth prices for it. If you do want to keep it, then just make sure its eating because it'll be a lot easier to treat if its eating.

Well, obviously I wasn't intending to buy a flowerhorn and normally I would just take it back but I thought this one looked pretty cool compared to what I usually see at Petsmart. I had a flowerhorn that died this summer and I wasn't going to get another one but now I'm reconsidering because I do like the looks of this guy. The parasite issue is giving me a lot of second thoughts though.

Well, I decided to return him but he died of internal parasites before I could even get him back to the store. Good thing I had him in a holding tank alone. I'm not even going to bother returning the dead fish for the firemouth. After all the firemouth was in the same tank as him and might be sick too. Lesson learned- don't buy fish from Petsmart.
