picked up 2 spotted gar from some bloke off aquarist classified for £40 (about 75 bucks) today. they're 7" and 9". not kept gar before so any advice would be more than welcome. never seen a spotted gar in england let alone kept one!

on my way back i stopped by a pretty cool lfs in a strange named place called "badshot lea" where i saw to my surprise a solitary 1" fish labelled "siamese tiger fish" for fifteen quid ($25). bloke knew absolutely nothing about them and so i tried to get greedy and talk him down even more and only paid a tenner (about 17 bucks!) but i'm sure it's an indo. could anyone confirm for me whether it's an indo or whether i've just got the steal of the century! it's got a beautiful full necklace whichever it is and i can't believe the markings are so strong and stable considering i took these 5mins after i released it into the tank having just got back with it following a 2 hour car trip. here's a few pics

the black lines on the gars are just stress. when i picked them up they had no lines. I'm 99% sure they are spotteds.

Those are not gars!
It's 2 nice Boulengerella maculata's...

yep you're right. just googled that and they definitely are them. can anyone then tell me about them!

I was sold one labelled as a spotted gar as well. Mine liked market shrimp (I could hand feed him this), eventually he even started eating small pellets. Also liked rosy red minnows and guppies. If you want to try larger pellets try soaking them a bit first so they're soft and get crushed when they bite down on them. Big hard pellets seemed to just bounce off my guys teeth and then he'd forget about it and go for the smaller pellets.
