Well, it’s not a shocking discovery. It’s a known fact in the animal kingdom that females prefer strong healthy males as partners.
I’d guess even more so if you starve her. If the male is well fed it means he knows where to find food.
It wouldn’t be surprising that fish would be the same way. They are a lot more complex then people assume.

Would I starve a female purposely before introducing a male?
No

Too many reasons that could go south fast.

And this just suggests that it makes the female curious about the well fed male. Not that they interacted at all, went on to breed, and had healthy fry.

Not a complete experiment imo to consider using for a breeding project.
