Got this a week ago at my friends fish store. It was listed as a silver gar and if I'm right i believe thats another name for a hujeta gar. I know its not a gar. How big do they get? I've read 8 inches and 18 inches. How would they get along with cichlids if put in when larger in a 125?

I had 1 for 5 years and they can be skiddish at times. 125gallons would be plenty of space, although I don't think the cichlids would be a good combination.
Well your friend might have his with cichlids but that doesn't necessarily mean its a good idea. Be careful and keep an eye on things, you may be ok with them together for now but just watch. Typically they are very skiddish and not very good at defending themselves against a larger more agressive fish.
