Hi all, hope your all well in these crazy times. Thought I'd share a pic of my new addition to my fish family , off a local breeder and was sold to my lfs as a f1 beani well that's all the info they had to pass on to me but what ever it is I'm happy with the lil fella , all my fish are young and get moved around as aggression rises as I have several other tanks but for now it is in a 180g and seems to be loving life. If anyone has any more info of the specific type of beani I'd really appreciate it, thanks for reading and stay safe all.

Yes that is Mayaheros beanii.
They tend to be fairly aggressive, because they are the only endemic cichlid in their northern Pacific coast of Mexico habitat, so may not play well with others.
The part of Mexico they come from, can get cool at night, so average temps for them, may get cooler than other Central Americans. I kept mine without heaters at room temp (mid to high 60s in winter, mid 70s in summer. They spawned at around 68'F, and tend to be less aggressive at lower temps.
Males get a slight hump and tend to be more high bodied, females a little more streamlined, and when in spawning condition, get a dark area in the dorsal.

Thank you for the info , I'm currently running my tank at 25 degrees very close to there max temp of 26 degrees , I will quickly do research on all my fish in the tank and if there all ok with it I'll take it down to 24 , at the minute it doesn't fight back when approached by other fish they just nudge him out the way and he continues on his way but I'm not expecting to have the only nice tempered specimen and expect the fish to change other time just hope it doesn't go to bonkers , main tank mates are a jaguar , a jack Dempsey, green terror , blood parrot , a senagal bichir and a sailfin pleco, I do have a couple of other fish in there but that's only because I removed them from another tank to quarantine the recent green terror and Beani cichlid.

Thought I'd sign in and make an update with the beanii, he now lives on his own in his own tank as he turned aggressive within 6 months, he's now a few years old and I've found they can tolerate a range in temperatures 25° and below, also I only feed him once every 5 days and not a huge amount, quality flakes and a small number of hikari cichlid gold at the same time. He's thriving and loving live, I live in the UK and in the little summer we have I had the heater switched off and only put it back on towards the back end of autumn.

Just want to add I originally used to feed him every 1-2 days but noticed he'd slow down and just not seem himself , he's now around 6 years old and I find feeding him every 4-5 days his behaviour has been consistent and he seems the happiest , I also have quite a slow paced tank so the pump is a slow waterfall type keeping his tank quite a peaceful place, he on the other hand is amazing he would fight my dog if he could , loves to interact with us and in general a very happy fish
