So i'm in korea for another 4 months. My awesome wife was nice enough to pick up a new fish for me. A 10 to 12 inch fahaka. I had a 6 inch that died a while back that i was pretty upset about. Was wondering if anyone had advice to help him settle down into new tank. She managed to transport without exposing him to air. He's added to tank which may be a little small for now. He will most likely be getting my 150 when i upgrade my brackish tank in the next 6 months. People we got him from showed my wife that he is a hand feeder and also likes to be petted. Diet will be clams, shrimp, snails maybe some tilapia and the occasional crawfish. I'll add more pics later but let me know if anyone has advice or constructive comments.

Thats a nice and round fahaka. Personally speaking i would probablu skip the talipa filets, and go with mussels on half shell, scallops, crays (which i think u mentioned) clams in full shell Etc

ok - so why wouldn't you recommend tilapia? because its to soft or not healthy enough? I plan on giving crunchies at least 75 % of the time but it would be easier on my wife to use some tilapia as some of my other fish eat is as well. Not disagreeing just curious as to why. Also you didn't mention shrimp. Market shrimp is one of my main food sources for the puffers in my brackish tank and mostly what i fed the younger fahaka I had previously. Are they not a good staple? Thanks for the help, I'd like to provide the best home i can for him.

Was on skype with wife yesterday and took a couple of webcam snapshots. Figured I would share them even though their not that great.
This guy is extemely interactive, acts really friendly and has let her pet him. Took a bite out of the live clam that is in the tank but hasnt eaten the muscles she offered yet. Pretty cool to be able to see my fish on webcam from the other side of the world.

lol nice fahaka man cant wait till mines gets that big =)
shrimp is good but remember he needs more stuff like snails, fiddler crabs, crayfish, clams, mussels as they need to have good teeth and if not properly fed you would or your wife will need to trim them for him

How big is his tank? What filtration is on there?

Oops, sorry didn't realize i didn't answer your question... i guess its not bad to feed your fahaka talipa per se, just more that they aren't really piscivores and benefit more from crunchy foods as compared to soft squishy ones...

Filtration is good, has a built in sump with tons of media and a 600 gph pump. Would probably filter my 150. The tank is 36x23x20 plus sump (80 gal?)which I know is too small. Its larger than the tank that he was housed in previously and he will be getting a 150 gallon all to himself as soon as I get home in three months. My brackish tank will be getting upgraded and he will get their current home.
He's been doin good on mussels so far, and demolished a piece of shrimp the other night. can't wait to get home and see him in person.
Heres a few more pics

Great looking fella you got... seems to have quite light markings on his/her body... btw, what size if your fahaka...

My wife says he is right around a foot. People we got him from said he's about a year old.
