I set up my children a 5 gal beta tank, My sister gave me the tank so I'm guessing could be anywhere from a 4 to 7.5 gal. I used some gravel and fake plants out of my main tank and got it cycled. I was at petsmart and got a beta in one of the horrible little cups with the blue water. The water had alot of fecees in it so I planed to drain of some of the water and leave the solid and most of the water behind.
Problem was he didn't like the ideal and jump out and into the sink down the drain. Thankfully it was a kitchen sink (came out of my inlaws kitchen). so it didn't make down to the trap. I had to take the plumbing a part and flush it into a plastic cup. guessed it would die from the soaps and residue, but the little guy is still alive health after a week. so far so good.

I can't tell you how many times mine as flopped onto the floor..I have one in a bowl with bamboo and for waterchanges I put him in a shotglass and do a 99% waterchange lol, the thing won't die. I got it for free and a year later its still here, with that nonconventional cleaning method. They are pretty tough.

glad there was a happy ending here. I expected you to say the fish was gone.

lol hes a champ! ive had fish jump out of the tank, and have been lucky enough to be home and hear them hit the floor and flop around-i just throw them back in the tank and they do fine..

This is not funny.....no wait it really is  I believe we all have experienced this, usually i come along and find fish jerky sometime later and scrape it up with a spatula. Im really glad this one worked out its hard to explain to a child that the new fishy just went sewer diving.
