Hi,

For couple days I will help my friend to recive a new fish - Red Arowana - 8-10". It will be a long trip for fish, from Tailand to Poland (more than 2 days). I go for it to the airport. What I should remember before I put new fish into new tank (on the airport, driving to my home, and etc.). Can you write me instruction step by step what should I do, how to be prepared ?

PS: Tank is prepared already... more than 2 months, testing and ready.

Thank you

Mike

I'd take a battery opperated Air pump. And give him alot of o2 on the way home.. Maybe take a cooler with a little water in it just in case the bag has leaked.. You'll still have enough water to give it a solid shot to live.. jmo

Hi,

What about at home, how to put fish in to a new tank, what steps when I put box at home - any quarantine.

Airport is in Warsaw and my friend home is in the same city (45 minutes from airport)

Thank you

Mike

For me i would let the bag float in the tank to adjust the temperature of the water in the Tank and that of the bag, then I will open the bag and add some water from the tank into the bag, maybe add 1/4 the colume of the bag, after half hour would release the arowana into the tank. make sure that the tank is covered so there's no space for the arowana to jump out :D

I don't usually quarantine arowana anymore since from my experience they are not prone to any disease
:D

Just ensure to darken the room while opening a bag & while putting him into tank. The fish stress out during journey & sudden exposure to light may spook him.

IMO its better idea to cover your tank-glass with newspaper for few days and don't feed him for a week. I had my tank covered for a almost 10 days with newspaper as my HBRTG used to jerk out with any movement in front of the tank. Don't switch on tanklights during this period either.

What I would do is once the fish is home I would put it in a container ( rubbermaid) below the tank with the water that it was transported in. I would then drip water from your tank into the rubbermaid ( I use an air hose with a valve on it to control drip rate). This will allow your fish to assimilated to your tank water and also adjust to the tank temperature without shock. The rate of drip would depend on how much water your fish was transported in. I would never just drop the fish straight into your tank or add water to the bag it came in. A steady drip will reduce shock to the fish. I would also do this in the dark. GL.

OK, thank you for everyone :)

wish i could order fish and pick it up from the airport with no quarantine by the stupid govt!

anyways
i sugest this

do not do anything, take him home in the same bag and poly box you get him in frmos hipping.

then when you get home, put the bag and float it on the tank for 15 mins to gte the temp right. and slowly poke holeson it to mix water.

or, you get acheap battery operated air pump and feed an airline into the bag while driving home, ti give it a helping hand breathing, as 2 days in a bag, thats gotta take sometoll on the water quality.

and just put int he tank after aclimatising it.

make sure your filter is good. test water twice daily for a few days to monitor.

i would make sure you train it on pellets straight away.
maybe when its introduced into the tank, put 1 or 2 floating pellets in the tank for it to start recognising that its the only food it will get.
pellet training aros is good.
i wish i pellet trained mine when i got it
