if you want color, you could go with some male Endlers or wild type guppies (often sold as feeders)

Do lots of research and know how to ID look-alike species before buying. LFS are usually completely retarded about puffers and will sell you anything from a Green Spot to a Figure 8 and call it whatever you want to hear to make the sale.
