Just bought a new Oscar 2 days ago and all of sudden he has White spots on his head and fins, his fins look really clowdy I would think it was ich but the spots arnt very big and I just got done treating my tank and my other Oscar doesn't have any symptoms. plz help thanks.

sounds like ich. raise water temp. to 85 degrees or a bit higher no more than 88degrees, and treat with commercial ich treatment like cure-ick. ick spots are small, and your other oscars may not be infected yet because they are already healthy and acclimated to your tank.

more important is to take out all your charcoal if you have them in the filtration so that the medicine can be potent. As for staining, im not so sure because i don't use any type of air pumps anymore due to too many of those breaking on me. only one i use is in my hospital tank. but, more aeration is needed for your fish's oxygen requirements especially since you have to raise the temp on your tank to get rid of the ich so i would say to leave it in.

you take down the temp. gradually. one or two degrees a day; but if your general temp. is in the 80's, and you raise it five degrees then drop it down to original, it wouldn't harm the fish since if you think about it, when it rains even in the tropics where most of our fish comes from, the rain water is still cool and will cool down the water temperature, or even when it's night time the water will be cooler since there certainly aint no big water heater on at night in a river in the tropics.

Your right but your logic is wrong. The amazon is a huge body of water and bodys of the water warm up slower and cool down slower then a fish tank. If the amazon even cools one full degree each night i would be suprised. And rain is generally close to air temperature by the time it hits the ground. I agree lowering the temp five degrees most likely isnt going to hurt your fish although i would recomend lowering it one degree a day better safe then sorry.

that's what i said in the first place. Either way, i hope your oscar pulls through. With increased temp, salt, and meds, ich is more a nuance than lethal now adays, but you got to treat it when you first spotted. i believe for salt it's one teaspoon to one table spoon per gallon will suffice.

and as for rain being in same air temp, if it rains continually for days on end, and at night, it will still drop the water temp. also, the amazon is def. a big body of water, and each area of the water also has diff. temps, and parameters. i bet if you go to the faster flowing area of the river then go to a stagnant area of the water under the sun, you will feel a big diff.

i wood raise ur temp like the others said and i found salt is much better then any commercial medicines. 1 tblsp every 5 gallons should be good, dnt do more, as long as u dnt have any scaleless fish in ur tank.
