Just thought id share ,I just got my order from Jeff Rapps in today- 5 umbees (2-2.5") and 4 rotkeil severums( 3-3.5").I had the umbees all divided in 2- 55gs for now ,but am havng the exsact problem when i first got my doviis- they are somehow getting though the dividers  .My question is should i maybe just put them all together in a bigger tank (125g) with plenty of hiding places temporarily ? (till thier big enough where they cant get through the dividers? The severums are really nice looking ,a little stressed and hiding but I can see lots of red on them ,however i do have two that seem to be facing off already ,what do you guys think ,should I throw some blood parrots in w/ them ?(to try to disperse aggression) Thier in a 100g long tank.thanks for any advice.

can't really help you much with your situation, but congrajulations

I don't know thats kind of a judgment call i would be kinda scared for the severums they umbee's will be okay with the dovi for a little while but not to sure about the severums... I dont think I would do it.... I would just have them all in there own seperate tanks, just to be safe... Good luck and congrats....

How much does he charge for shipping??? and were do you live???

Concidering putting in an order....

That is what I would do but watch for any aggression or you could end up loseing a few fish.

Never mind just seen were your from... But how much was shipping???

shipping to me was about $80 -not bad at all considering the distance.Well maybe my post was confusing the severums are alone in a 100g and the umbees are alone in 2 55gallons divided(but the dividers are not working, thier too small i guess).YeahI think ill juggle some fish around and move the umbees together in the 125g-my plan is to grow them out and keep the best 2 or 3 .As far as the severums ...hmmm I dunno ,maybe i should just let them settle into thier tank for now ? Thanks for the advice :)

thanks nate-n-nicloe I was just about to ask that...and if you dont want to post a price you can pm me thanks....

You live in paradise and you get a better shipping price then me. I get charged $85+ a box.
ok well... was $86.23 exsactly -worth it to me cause theres no place here to find these types of cichlids(hahaha im used to understating- goes w/ being married to a non fishkeeping spouse )Also I know everyone thinks of Hawaii as 'paradise' but its actually a hard place to live.BTW my umbees are in the much bigger tank together now -im not seeing any fighting !-amazingly !-though i understand that wont last for long.I try to take some pics when I can ,but knowing my cheapcamera and terrible phographic skills maybe a while.

I am growing out umbee right now. I stuck them in a 40 gallon - 4 of them. Bought 4 carpintes and put them there as well. Then I stuck one of my larger midas with them.

All are doing well. The much larger midas prevents any one umbee from being picked on too long, as he keeps them all moving.

3 months ago, I found Hericthys bartoni. Bought 6 of them, and put them in the same 40 gallon by themselves. My 90 was still a marine, and they were too small to stick in with anything else. Now I have only 1 bartoni left. Had I had a 2x larger, aggressive fish, he would be doing what my midas is now - stopping all aggression between the species, and he never focuses on any one. Couple more weeks, and they go in the 90 with some way larger africans, until I can throw them in my 230.

Better to mix them all, then keep them somewhat separated. More agression is spread between more fish.
