Like many aquarium owners, the allure of having a new fish roaming the tank is always an appealing one, albeit risky in some cases. I am content with leaving the tank how it is if necessary as the fish are growing well, producing great colors, and aggression is low to mild at the most. If I were to introduce a new fish to the tank, I am not exactly looking for something like the Danios, I'd rather just leave the tank how it is than introduce another fish that will cap out at 2 inches. Input is welcome, to leave the tank alone or introduce something new.

Obviously I am the loser who hasn't done any live planting in the tank, but I still love it. All fake stuff unfortunately. Tank stays crystal clear all of the time minus the algae on the glass that I have to go through and clean up when I do water changes. All of the fish get along other than the Parrot and the Texas, but the Texas is just antsy with all of the fish in general. I had to get the Texas as a very young fish because they didn't have any others at the time. But it has grown a lot since I got it a few months ago. The Texas and Parrot go at it quite a bit despite the massive size difference between the two. I can't really tell which appears to be the aggressor as they both do their share to make the other mad. Fish in the tank are as follows:

55G Tank

Featherfin Catfish who is hiding inside of the log, if I can get a picture of him sometime I will. Has a huge beautiful fin on his back. About 3-4 inches long, less than 5-6 months old.

Blood Parrot, aka "Parrot" about a year old now, pretty good size and a big chunk. My baby of the tank.

Texas, aka "Oreo". Not exactly sure on the age, less than 5-6 months though for sure. Got the name Oreo because when I first got it it had a very distinctive dress of black and white. It was constantly trying to get attention from the Parrot, now they just fight lol.

Geophagus Brasil, aka "Geo". I love and hate this fish all at the same time. It's a really fun fish to watch as it goes around the tank picking up multiple rocks, building mounds and so on. But it is definitely a drama master, darting away anytime someone approaches the tank. Somewhat of a bummer as there has never been any thumping on the tank or reason for it to be that way. Beautiful fish though, about a year old as well. 3-4 inches long.

4 Giant Danios, aka "Danio" lolView attachment 943184

save your money for a 150g mate, they will grow quicker than you think! the parrot alone will need more than that tank really and synodontis eruptus aka featherfin get 12 inch, texas 12 inch, geo what? nice looking tank tho and good job on the maintenance,,,

Geophagus Brasiliensis. Currently I am pretty limited on tank sizes that I can upgrade to. I am already not really supposed to have this tank where I live at currently but the landlord turns a blind eye to it. Thank you on the upkeep compliment! Like I said, I am not against leaving it how it is. Keeps things simple since the tank is clean, disease free and so forth.

Bigger tank or sell everything but the parrot. Your texas and geo are both going to push a foot in length and get bulky. When this happens your texas will feel cramped and get angry, at this point he'll get rid of your other fish himself.

With him/her being as young as it is right now, if I were to upgrade the tank within 1-2 years when I move into a home that'd be fine, correct?

in a year or less,IME the texas will probably be maxed out in size.if yours is a female then she could be 8-10 inches.if she is mellow then maybe things won't turn rough.but i think you have alot of maybe....as these fish mature in a year or less, then the genders could play a role, potential breeding, displaying, territories, etc.

I see it like this:
1. Upgrade to a 48x18 tank or 72x12 tank and keep your fish
2. Upgrade to a 72x24 tank and get some new fish
3. Sell all your fish

Not to discount your ideas, Fish042099, but upgrading to a 48x18 is only increasing the width slightly, nothing more. Granted this may help out a bit, I don't see that being an end all solution. However going up to the 72x24 is a significant jump, something that could happen I guess. Just not at the moment.

The only two fish having issues are the Geo and Texas, which the Texas is bullying the Geo a lot even though there's quite a size gap between the two. It's like the Geo has no fighting bone in its body and just swims away. I'm contemplating getting rid of it. Or possibly getting rid of the Texas. I'd just like to think that a tank this size is capable of holding 3 fish, territorial or not. I just know with how defensive the Texas is over the Blood Parrot that if I get rid of the Geo, I won't be able to introduce anything else to the tank because it will result in the same thing. Unless of course I get a fish that will stand its ground. That seems to be the biggest issue as of right now.

I'm also not against taking out the Geo completely and leaving the rest of the tank as is. Maybe add a pleco.
