New fish, what to do

Just out of curiosity, how does everyone "break in" new fish? By this I mean, how does everyone get their new fish accustomed to the new environment, and prevent hiding and dull coloration?

i always make sure the fish in the tank are well fed first. let the fish get acclimated to the temperature, lighting, and environment while still in the container, and let em swim. works for me, oh and i talk to my fish.

^I reckon this is the most important thing that you must do. MUST.

Also I leave the bag/container in for a bit like everyone else, but also exchange some water between the container and the tank to get the fish to acclimatize to the water and yeah after a while dump it in.

I just setup a drip and make sure I have the day off work to keep a eye on the fish all day so no bullying happens. And leave the light off for the first day. After day one my routine stays the same. Feed same time everyday. Water change same day every wk. lights on same time every day. So they fish can get in the routine.

Actually feed the existing fish; then net the new fish out of the bag water, and dump them in...I never drip.
