Hi guys, was devastated the other day I lost my fire eel from my cichla tank, had it for quite some time and was a fish with personality. It also helped to keep the aquarium clean by eating any of the food the cichla missed. It managed to move a lid and escape the tank. For the past few weeks was thinking of getting a new scavenger for the bottom and was swaying towards a vulture catfish or similar but somebody local to me was selling a tiger shovelnose catfish at a good price so I decided to have a look. Immediately I jumped at the chance and bought it but the guy was also selling a few other fish which included a dorado which is rarely seen where I am. of course impulse buy I had it. The two orino’s I have immediately attacked the dorado which I kind of expected but didn’t expect them to attack the shovelnose. After the first 24 hrs with the lights off they all settled in and left the shovelnose alone and the dorado which is constantly on the move gives back a bit now. Just after some advice from you guys who have kept these fish together. Will post some pics soon they’re about 6-7 inches at the moment and the shovelnose about a foot.

Ye not to sure if I done the right thing picking this dorado up but couldn’t resist, things have calmed down tho. Was going to just keep two out of the 4 bass when I find out wat sex they are and now I got more fish.

Is the dorado not getting along with the others? Is he getting picked on or is he the aggressor?

At first he was being bullied by the orino’s but the next day there was circling and nipping from both and now it’s calmed down the dorado is quite busy swimming around and occasionally the bass would flare up but no serious attack. The dorado doesn’t seem to give a **** now and is quite confident so I’m guessing as it grows table might turn, I noticed you have quite a few dorado which are starting to yellow up and look awesome, have you ever had them in with cichla.

That's good to hear. I think you have a chance at making it work.
I have never mixed my dorados with any other fish.
Love the background in your tank.
