I finally got my fishermans license yesterday went fishing and caught a few small fish.. So now I have a question... How do you keep fish alive? I want to start a small native aquarium but they died on the ride home... I know I will probably have more questions but I read you guys posts all the time and there seem to be alot of great anglers here to help...

Ger yourself a few of these

Make sure to have an air stone, they usually have them in there. Get extra batteries as well, they usually last 36 hours.

Keep the bucket of fish out of direct sun if possible and frequently replenish the water with new water from where you caught it from. Right before you leave, fill it up as much as possible with fresh water, put the bubblers on there and haul arse home. I drilled several holes in the lid of my bucket for the airlines.

I have one of these buckets, the lids screws on and has an o-ring so if it tips, the water wont spill and you can latch the bubblers to the side on the extra rim space. 6.5 US Gallon Bucket with Screw-on Lid

^^^^ this. battery operated air pump and try to make sure the fish don't overheat in the bucket

You'll also want to check on local laws and regulations. DNR have been getting strict about transporting live native fishes with all of the invasives running rampant lately. You could be in for a big fine if you are not careful.

So which stores can I buy the portable aerator in, or do I have to purchase one online? And I have been learning the laws they gave me the michigan dnr fishing book when I got the license

Well find a pond or small community lake close to your house. Then get a huge ice chest with an aerator and possibly heater. Then drive SLOW!

Also check local fish and game laws. In the city I live in in Texas it is illegal to seine native fish and transport them.
