Today we are closing on a piece of land to build our dream house on. The best part is I am going to get to design a Fishroom from scratch. This will be an unfinished portion of the basement where I can house tanks other than my display tanks.

I figure that I am going to need outlets throughout, floor drain, sink and probably a way to distribute Air to all of the tanks. What am I forgetting? What do you wish you had in your current fishroom that would make maintenance and running the fishroom easier?

Gfci outlets (safety/code) you will need a faucet of some sort. As far as air goes I would use a big air pump and manifold valve with check valves in line to prevent siphoning. I would also add a utility pump too so you can push the old water outside or to gardens. Not sure about your location but here we pay for water going down the drain. Plus my gardens and grass love the high nitrate water from my tanks. You should also look at a dehumidifier for your fish room. As well as good insulation in the basement so your heating cost can stay low and you want have as much fluctuating in temp.

Usually you're charged for sewers based on water usage so whether the waste water actually goes in the sewer or not is irrelevant but it ie nice to reuse the water rather than waste it.

For a sink get a mop basin. They're fairly inexpensive and a lot more practical for filling buckets or syphoning.

Good call in the mop basin. Didn't even cross my mind.

Built in really good water filter. This is the time to mount an appropriate sized RO system or at least foam and carbon filters.

+1 on a robust dehumidifier, and make sure it is the kind with a hose that runs into a drain, as it wil otherwise fill up daily.

Good insulation, solar underfloor heating , heat exchanger, solar tubes for each main tank, level cement floor, 2-3 taps all on there own lines, dedicated room for sumps & main drains installed on each wall of room then run a grate across the length of the room for easy drainage =D
