I just picked up a beautiful flag tail. It's the biggest I've seen in person at about 11" so I had to have it. I've never had one before so I need some advice. What is the best food to give them? He has a white spot on his nose. Does anyone know what it is? I guessed it was just from swimming against the glass all the time.

Here's some pics a of him

Nice flagtail. I would guess that's just a scar from nose rubbing. Neither of mine have anything like that. Mine both eat pretty much anything-krill, algae (growing and in wafer form), Hikari pellets, krill, freeze-dried or frozen anything. They aren't picky

Yeah, the nose thing is a scar from rubbing/bumping into the glass. No big deal.

Feeding for mine is (was...... jumped) flake food. He seemed to like to feed off the surface. He would even feed from my hand. I would pinch flakes togeather and hold it just under the surface and he would eat right from my hand! Damn I miss that guy :(

Nice pick up!

Thanks for your help. They had it in one of the best lfs around here. I'm guessing a customer brought it in after it outgrew their tank. I have it in a 7 foot tank now so hopefully it might heal up better with the extra space and good water.
I paid £40, about $65 for it. Is that a good price for a flag tail of about 10-11"?

Sorry to hear you lost yours. Mine was jumping in the box a lot when I brought it home.
He will be joining my four rtg arowana when they are over 12" and two motoro rays. Are they okay with rays?

They are definitely jumpers. When I got my 150, I had to tear down and move my 75 and then move the 150 in. During the whole thing, my bigger flagtail hit the floor probably 4 times, but luckily wasn't hurt.

As far as keeping them with rays, some people have had experience with flagtails sucking on slower fish and if they start doing it, you usually can't do anything but separate them.

probably just a bump scar from when he had been moved from one tank to the other, it will probably heal (my opinion) nice fish wow.

Beautiful fish.
I have 3 and will eventually get rid of 2 as they grow probably.
I saw one at a LFS around here that was 10". Biggest I've seen too and I would of bought him if it wasn't sold already... Teasing is not cool:D.
Your's looks awesome.
